GA needs more love and fanart /o/
I’ve watched quite a lot anime recently, finished Moyashimon, Simoun and Full Metal Panic ~fumoffu~. The next one in the line was Hidamari sketch the first season. I watched the first episode last night and it was unexpectedly…. boring. I felt like I could sleep if I continue watching the second episode. This morning I decided to give it another chance and turned it off after 3 minutes. The adaption was really really horrible. This must be the first time I feel like this watching an anime.
Thinking the manga must be better I read it and I was right, Hidamari Sketch manga’s pretty funny. Still, something irked me but I couldn’t tell what it was. Finally I realized it this evening, the characters are quite retarded. I have read two other mangas that have the same theme: girls and art, which are GA – Geijutsuka art design class and Sketchbook. In Sketchbook, all characters are weird, they know that and don’t care about that, they are in character all the time, you can say they never act normal because that is how they are. In GA, the main girls are smart, they know what is going (except Kisaragi, she is clueless) but they simply want to have fun and be creative, they are natural and in one way or another, normal. Hidamari Sketch’s characters are different, the author wants them to be pretty close to reality so their characteristics are pretty normal but s/he also wants them to give off that moe feeling so their actions/reactions became retarded. They are moe-fied. In other words:
- Sketchbook: Weird girls do weird things.
- GA – Geijutsuka art design class: Art female students hang out and have fun.
- Hidamari Sketch: Girls act silly because it’s moe.
This difference must also be the reason why Hidamari Sketch is so strong in saimoe, they are supposed to be moe after all.
